Human Design System
Human Design Centers

There are 9 Centers in The Human Design System. These are the squares and triangles that contain the attributes (Gates) and from which the Channels (Life Force) flow. Many people think Human Design is very complicated, it certainly has great depth, but the knowledge is conveyed in layers, one layer building upon the next. The Centers are simple to understand and fundamental to each Design.
There are four Centers that are 'motors' they have power. The Sacral centre for doing and working, The Solar Plexus Center that is both a motor that creates emotional waves of feeling and also an awareness Center from which emotional clarity (or confusion) is present in a constantly moving apprehension of how they feel and how that feeling changes from sad to happy, from excited to overwhelm, from love to hate and so on. The Root Center is where our adrenalin pressurises us to do what we have to do. The Will Center is a motor of Will energy that engages when we want to get involved with something or someone.
There are three Awareness Centers, the Solar Plexus, mentioned above where emotional awareness is present. The Splenic Center that provides the intuition or instinct to assist us in serving in the moment. It is aware of the immediate surroundings and whether it is healthy or threatening. This awareness shows itself in physical sensations such as 'goose bumps' that move suddenly through the body. Finally there is the conceptual awareness of the Ajna Center that measures, thinks, imagines and receives unique insights about the world and our experience in it.
The Head Center is a pressure Center, as is the Root Center. But it's not the emergency energy of the Root Motor, instead it's the pressure to think, to question, to reflect on the past, project into the future or to ponder the mysteries.
The G Center concerns our self identity, its direction and the love of the journey of the Self through life.
All Centers flow towards the Throat Center where expression, communication and action take place.

The Head Center
This Center's biological association is with the Pineal gland, which is a regulatory organ that controls the flow of information from the deep grey areas in the brain, to the Neocortex for processing into thoughts via conceptual measurements, assessments, descriptions and potential manifestations in the form of words.
The fuel of this pressure is inspiration. The inspiration appears as a question or a confusion that needs to be answered or made sense of and creates what is felt as anxiousness until that question has been answered or rationalized in a satisfactory way.
Thoughts are endless and so is the pressure to think them for anyone who has this Head Center Defined or colored in their chart, meaning they have it Fixed all the time. It is a pressure that must be fed by new knowledge all the time and people with such a Fixed Center in them will be avid collectors of knowledge in some form or another.

Visit PageThe Ajna Center
With a Defined Ajna Center, you can be anxious about whether your concepts will be accepted or appreciated by others.
You can often be good at thinking up questions and mental frameworks to share with others on how you see the world according to how you think or believe it is. With this Center being consistently activated you can express consistently ideas, dreams, plans, theories, insights, possibilities etc to others and in doing so your words may well bring them much benefit. Not only does your mind think all the time, but you think in a specific way and because of that, you're certain you're right.
Whether your mind is logical, abstractly framed by experience or mystical in its nature or a mixture of all three, it is still not something that is relevant for you in making decisions. Your mind can never be an authority for your life. It is a measuring device and that is all. It's extremely good at that and can be admired.
Know you are not here to live your life according to the framework of how your mind consistently interprets the world. Let it be like 'background radio' that has meaning but is simply not relevant to how you make decisions for you.

The biological relationship of the Throat Center is the thyroid and the parathyroid gland. These are endocrine glands and they act as metamorphic agents. This is a Center of transformation or metamorphosis and is not a Motor but a Center of manifestation and expression.
The Throat Center has more Gates (eleven) than any other Center in the Human Design System. All the Channels above the Throat Center move down towards it as the place where thoughts can be expressed in words or sounds. All the Channels below the Throat Center move up towards it and all The Channels above it move down towards it.
The Throat Center is a central nexus point for all forms of manifestation and communication in our interactions with the world and those who inhabit it.

Visit PageThe G Center
This is the Center of Identity, Love and Direction. It aligns who we are with our correct trajectory as we move through our lives.
The biological association of this Center is with the Liver and Blood. It is the liver that determines whether the blood is healthy or not. As an example, those who drink to excess can damage their liver, so their blood will not be as healthy as it could be and their sense of identity can be slowly eroded. It is through the mechanics of the G Center that our unique frequency can be expressed in every moment, but it is often distorted through not following our Strategy and Authority.
As a result, our life is lived through such distortion and we meet resistance and unnecessary difficulty by not living out our true nature. This can be seen in the mundane world when we do things, say things and behave in a way that is not congruent with our nature, trying to live out the dictates of our mental processing and thereby suffer the consequences.

Visit PageThe Sacral Center
If you have a Defined Sacral Center, the key word for you is 'Response'. Your Fixed Sacral Center will only operate correctly if you respond. Only IF your energy responds and rises up towards something that needs completing (if you have the 42nd Gate) will you know that your power is available to complete that task at that time.
Often a sound emerges out of the Sacral Center when the energy rises. Generally speaking, it may be an open-ended sound such as "ah-HUH". There will also be a corresponding movement of energy throughout the body that can be experienced and witnessed. The Sacral may move you closer to the person or thing that you have responded to, or you may find yourself energized and feel ready to move into the task in question. If there is no movement of energy, no response, no indication that your energy is available for the task, then there may be no sound coming from you, or a negative, closed sound may emerge, such as "UHN-un" (No!). If the timing is not right then a 'hmmmmmm' sound may be heard. In this case, it is an indication that your energy is not available in the moment, but may be at another time.
So by 'checking in' by 'responding', especially to questions asked of you, it is possible to know whether you have energy for any particular thing at any particular moment. Following these Sacral indications is required for someone with a Fixed or coloured-in Sacral to operate correctly.

If you have this Center Defined, then you are an Emotional being who is here to have the experience of feelings changing over time. It is that very process, as you digest the different emotional frequencies, that gives you depth in knowing what you really feel about someone or something.
If you recognize that there can often be a nervousness in your stomach and understand that the more nervousness you feel, the less clear you are about how you feel, then you may see that acting on your feelings in the moment on a high or low point in your emotional wave, can never be a good thing for you. Think about how many times you've bought something on the urge of your high emotional wave and then wished you hadn't a week later.
The key for you is to wait for your emotional clarity to settle within you. You experience everything through the emotional wave and, as such, experience everything in different ways at different times. When you allow yourself enough time, you can know what or who is right for you or not.

If you have a Defined Splenic Center. This means you have an in-built survival awareness that provides you with an early warning alert if danger is around you, or if something you are about to do is potentially dangerous. You may experience it as a real fear that clutches you from inside or makes your skin tingle and brings your awareness sharply and immediately into focus.
There is a penetrating quality about this awareness that carries with it an immediate clear certainty of what the situation is in relation to your well-being.

Visit PageThe Will/Ego/Heart Center
If you have a Fixed Heart/Ego/Will Center it is important for you to receive the respect of those around you.
You can feel this Will power within you when you consider doing or saying something. You don't want to waste your energy in a display that no one is likely to witness. You have an Ego (which is not seen as negative in Human Design, it is simply a quality of your Design) and that Ego actually needs to receive praise in order for it to remain strong and capable of doing the great deeds it is capable of. But neither do you want to make a promise that you know you cannot keep. For then, no one will trust you. Your word means something! It is backed by a powerful energy that can be truly an impressive power.
This willpower you have is not sustainable. After an exertion of sufficiently grand and impressive proportions, you need to withdraw and rest in order to regain your strength and will. To work less time for more money should always be your aim and the work/rest ratio must always be considered and balanced in an ascending arc favoring more rest and less work.

Visit PageThe Root Center
The Root Center is directly associated to the Adrenal glands and the manufacture of stress hormones. It is a fuel source when we need energy for emergencies or to deal with the many stresses we may encounter in life, simply from the fact that we have to care for our essential bodily needs of food, shelter and security.
The Root Center contains the vitality that brings joy into one's life, as existential pressures are balanced between being still and being engaged in handling what needs to be handled when an extra push is necessary.
