Human Design Profiles

There are 12 Profiles in The Human Design System. This describes the overall 'costume' that we were born with, and, just as there are 12 Astrological Sun Signs they are one of the most immediate ways to recognise a generic description that fits us well.

The Profiles are indicated by the Line of the Gates in the Sun/Earth configuration in our chart. The Black numbers are conscious the Red unconscious. There are 6 Lines in total. So, for instance, the 1/3 Profile has a conscious 1st Line - this shows a more introverted makeup, one that gives an insecure approach to life, investigating where one is weak and through research to become strong as an authority in whatever it may be. The 3rd Line is unconscious and brings with it a tendency towards trial and error in finding out what doesn't work and then going deeper to discover experientially how to correct the error. It provides the person with a resilient body that often repairs quicker than most.

Another example would be the 6/2 Profile. These are people that are looking for perfection and indeed, trying to be perfect in their early life. They align to the three major life Cycles from subjectivity to objectivity and finally to transcendence where they find the perfect they sought is actually themselves becoming authentic and serving as a Role Model to demonstrate their uniqueness and letting go of any hypocrisy. The 2nd Line is 'The Natural' which can contain gifts that the person is not conscious they even have. It contains a shyness that becomes bold when they are self-motivated to live their lives within their own private 'bubble' of interest with what they resonate with. They cannot be bothered with things that don't fit with them easily. They love to play and delight in getting bargains while they potter about in their lives waiting to be called into something that suits their own motivation.

Knowing one's Profile assists in embracing the reality of one's Design because it is lived out on a day-by-day basis.

Richard Beaumont has created well illustrated, informative and entertaining videos on each of the 12 Profiles. Check out the Previews and sets below:

1/3 Profile

Your nature is to investigate things to a great depth. You are naturally able to delve more deeply into things than many other people.

You learn through this investigation, based in the trial and error process, which can lead to many discoveries and mishaps, especially when you are undertaking something new.

The Profile framework that shapes your incarnation dictates that you will have your own personal destiny. You may begin life with poor transpersonal skills, because it is in your nature to be deeply self-absorbed in your own life. You are here to be involved in your own personal journey. You are fundamentally introspective in your process, as you try to find out how things work and come to a deep understanding.

You can be very engaging and a real resource of information in the areas that you've researched. Since you are designed to "have a go" and try things out, you can inevitably make mistakes in the beginning. You can certainly learn a great deal from this, so don't think about them as mistakes. If you learn from what went wrong then you become more experienced. The trick is to avoid making the same mistake twice. But, of course, the experience of discovering what you thought was a solid foundation and then finding out it isn't, can be painful and you may develop a pessimistic outlook on life.

In your investigations, when you discover something that doesn't work, or is being portrayed in an incorrect way according to the depth of your investigations, then the unconscious anarchist emerges and you want to tear down the incorrect structure or tell everyone that whatever or whoever it may be is wrong and why.

1/4 Profile

You are designed to gain depth from your investigations into whatever fascinates you and you will always have opportunist aspirations to share your depth with others.

You are here to be deeply self-absorbed in your own life. The Profile framework that shapes your incarnation dictates that you will have your own personal destiny. You are here to be involved in your own personal journey. You may begin life with some transpersonal skills as you know that other people are important to you, but it is in your nature to be self-absorbed. You are here to be involved in your own personal journey. You are fundamentally introspective in your process.

It is imperative that you feed your network of friends and that you keep in touch with them to make sure you keep your access to them open. You have the ability to be very influential in this life, but that depends to a large extent upon the quality and size of your network. All real opportunities come to you through friends and family. They are the ones who introduce you to the contacts you need to flourish. They are the ones to whom you externalize your knowledge and expertise and the ones who nourish you.

However, you can become weary trying to find people who listen to and accept your views. So you are susceptible to 'People Fatigue Syndrome' and can at times feel like you are 'burnt out' and just want to disconnect with everyone. After all, you are designed to want to externalize your views to others and it can be exhausting having to listen to everyone else's views, while you wait for your chance to express yourself.

2/4 Profile

You are here to be deeply self-absorbed in your own life. The Profile framework that shapes your incarnation dictates that you will have your own personal destiny. You are here to be involved in your own personal journey.

You're a natural but also shy. It may feel as if everyone's looking at you. You get their attention because they can see you have many natural gifts that you don't even know you have. So, when someone suggests that you do what you do so well out in the world you may resist them. You don't want to be put into the spotlight because you have a natural ability that you don't necessarily understand. Because of this you may often say, "Leave me alone" or "I can't be bothered". You have little interest in others telling you that you have such great potential, as you just don't want to be bothered, until the right call comes.

You are designed to be primarily self-motivated. You want to do your own thing.

You are here to be called out by others and once called you can easily become a bold missionary as you are excellent at broadcasting to others anything you truly believe in, thanks to the fixed unconscious side of your Profile that loves to network with your friends.

Harmony for you is being left alone. It is essential that you have your own space, whether that is your own flat or your own room where you can retreat to away from the world. However your unconscious side needs to relate to people in order to externalize your truth and make friendly connections to do so. It is imperative that you feed your network of friends and that you keep in touch with them to make sure you keep your access to them open. You have the ability to be very influential in this life, but that depends to a large extent upon the quality and size of your network. All real opportunities come to you through friends and family.

2/5 Profile

You are naturally a shy person, who prefers to be self-motivated, pottering about doing your own thing, deeply self-absorbed in your own life. Sometimes a whole day can go by and if someone asks you what you've done you may be hard pressed to tell them, because you've simply allowed yourself to do whatever it is you feel to do when you feel to do it. So it is perfectly fine for you to enjoy your privacy, hide from the world, and escape from the pressure that others bring to you.

However, you also have an unconscious side to you that is deeply seductive and draws projection from others and in that sense you are never free from the expectation of others wanting something from you. This unconscious aspect is deeply practical and you are at your best when there is a crisis and you suddenly find yourself jumping in and helping, often with great success. This is the side of you that needs to be careful about who you help and when you jump in. It's important that you protect your reputation. If you do something marvelous, people talk about you and your reputation flourishes. If, however, you fail and don't meet the expectation of others, then conversely your reputation suffers and you can find yourself shunned.

You are heretical and it is natural for you to go against the tide, to rebel against the norm. When things go wrong in that norm, then you have a chance to attract support and be of great help to others. In that sense, you can be a 'stranger of consequence'.

3/5 Profile

You are designed to have an adventurous life full of experiences.

You are often prepared to "Have a Go" when others are not! Of course, initially things may not always work out as you expect them to. The conscious side of your personality is designed to learn through a trial and error process, which often means making mistakes and learning lessons along the way. This is where the correlation to the 'Martyr' comes in, as you are willing to stand up for a principle and may well be able to bring that principle to others, using yourself as the example while you mature through your experiences and find principles that you can really live by. It can also lead you to ask "Why me?" and "Why now?"

It may not be easy. But over time, you can accumulate a great deal of experience and with that, the wisdom of what does not work. If you find something that doesn't work but should work, then the inner anarchist emerges and you will want to tell people about it and bring down the whole house of cards.

Along the way, you can figure out all kinds of potential adaptations. How things work as well as how to repair them. In going through this trial and error process, you can discover so many things. You have a remarkable ability to pick yourself up and try again.

There is also an inherently practical side to you. People can project onto you that you are able to save them, since they see you as someone who can rescue them and provide a solution to their problems. Indeed, you may well be able to provide a solution, but if it involves something you have no experience in, then you may well make mistakes with disastrous results.

3/6 Profile

You are designed to have an adventurous life full of experiences. The conscious side of your personality is designed to learn through a trial and error process, which often means making mistakes and learning lessons along the way. This is where the correlation to the 'Martyr' comes in. You are willing to stand up for a principle, using yourself as the example as you mature through your experiences and find principles that you can really live by. On the positive side, you have the great gift of being able to adapt.

You are likely to have three very distinct phases in your life.

The first phase, up until the age of approximately 28-30, is likely to be chaotic. This is the time you live a life of trial and error. You will make mistakes, although hopefully you will learn from them. You are likely to have your trust broken by trusting the wrong people or putting your energy into things that are simply not fulfilling. It is not unusual to encounter relationship problems. It can be intense. But don't judge yourself or others too harshly during this phase.

Second Life Phase (around 28-30 years-of-age). You may find yourself carrying the weight of a life where nothing seems to work. But in reaching this age, you have good reason to be optimistic, for it can be a twenty-year period when you feel more stable. Yes, you will go up and down, never leaving the intensity of trial and error completely, or be completely free of the material constraints of the world. But your inherent gift of being able to adapt to changing circumstances and able to persevere through difficult times will never leave you. At the same time, you may feel somewhat aloof and disconnected from others during this period. The advantage of this is that you can gain a better overview on what works and what doesn't and slowly begin to gain a more objective perspective.

Third Life Phase (around 49-51 years-of-age). You no longer have the privilege of being aloof from what goes on. This transition happens with the Chiron Return. It may be a rocky time of feeling rather unstable as you head for the grounding in a completely different life. This is the time when others may no longer come to you as an authority, no longer listen to what you say the way they used to, but rather they watch you to see what you do.

4/6 Profile

You are often actively seeking connections with friends and making new friends in order to have a sufficient network through which you can externalize your truth and thereby fulfill your personal destiny.

You will do this is a very fixed, self-absorbed way. It is not in your nature to bend with the wind or adapt what it is you have to bring to people's attention. In other words, if someone is not interested in what you have to say or disagrees with it, you are likely to back off without creating conflict and wait until you have a more receptive audience.

You are here to be involved in your own personal journey, yet you know how to be with people and can usually find a way to be comfortable with them. Indeed you can be someone others will easily confide in. Your fixed nature makes you potentially very influential and you stick to your point of view.

4/1 Profile

You are a rare Profile. Only about 2.38% of the population has this remarkable 'bridging' Profile.

You can appear to be rather rigid to all the other Profiles, but never mind about them, as you are not designed to be changeable. The world needs you to be the stable bridge you are, bringing us vital information or connecting us to the people we need to meet as you move down your fixed road. Nothing gets in your way. You are not here to bend with the wind, adapt to the changing times or the different people you meet in your life. You are more likely to break than bend and adapt. You have your track and your Fixed Fate in this life. You are not here to change.

Your friendly nature protects you when others encounter what they can interpret as stubbornness, when you refuse to accept that your foundation may be faulty. You are what you are. Relax! Let others adapt to you or move to more friendly receptions.

You can retain your balance by following what interests you. In so doing, your conviction can inspire others.

Your early life is important, as it will set the scene for what you hold onto as true. It's important that you are not lied to, for you will pass on whatever you have been told as truth and it can be devastating if you discover it is not true.

One aspect of your Profile is the unconscious 'Investigator' so the earlier you can find what you want to investigate the better. You can be a wonderful specialist and expert who studies hard and digs deep into the foundation of whatever your chosen field may be. Of course, this need not be academic. If you are brought up with a non-academic background, then you will still find the vocation that appeals to you and be able to delve deeply into that.

5/1 Profile

You are designed to be transpersonal. You have good communication skills. You can observe the world as a whole and really see who you are connecting with and what their trip is as well as living your own life.

The conscious 'Heretic' part of your Profile tells us that you have the ability to universalize new heresies to a wide audience. In that sense, you tend to go against the majority if you assess that it is more practical to do so. You are aided in this by an initially, attractive projection field. Most people appreciate you when they first encounter you. You can be successful when people project upon you as they have great hopes and expectations that you can help them out of a crisis.

The key ingredient here is practicality. As a Heretic, if what you do or say isn't practical, then you are likely to get blamed or 'burnt at the stake' by those who are disappointed that you can't fulfill their expectations. So it's only natural that you can be suspicious, even a little paranoid, when someone comes to you and you wonder what they want, because they usually want something from you. It is vital that you protect your reputation.

You have an insecure unconscious side to your Profile that needs a strong foundation. So if you have really investigated something thoroughly and act from that solid research base, the chances are you will be able to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

5/2 Profile

This is an unusual Profile, both in its relative scarcity (about 2.3% of the population) and in the fact that you have a dual projection field around you. People can see your natural gifts, when you yourself may be unaware of them and they also project upon you that you can help them and are the answer to their prayers. Obviously, this is not an easy Profile with your tendency to hide away from people and your need to deal with their projections and their insistence that you should be doing what they think you should be doing.

It is not unusual for 5/2's to become involved in some spiritual path, especially as your 2nd Line needs to be called out. The Higher Forces can seem particularly fond of you. You are really here to be self-motivated in your life. If you don't want to do something, then you won't. Even if people are screaming at you that you could do this or that and they really need you to do whatever it is, quite frankly you're not bothered until you are. When you come to your own inner sense of what you want to do, the direction you want to go in, the place you want to be etc then you are motivated to go out into the world and follow your own path.

The conscious part of your Profile, The 'Heretic', tells us that you have the ability to universalize new heresies to a wide audience. In that sense, you tend to go against the majority, if you assess that it is more practical to do so.

You are likely to live in your own bubble Hermit world, a safe refuge from the world where you don't want anyone to disturb your space.

6/2 Profile

Your conscious Personality is on a long road to become a 'Role Model' of themselves; someone deeply authentic. Someone whose self-leadership is embodied.

The unconscious Hermit is the naturally gifted one who doesn't really know how they do what they do that impresses others and can be shy when put in the spotlight. Someone who isn't really interested in developing themselves unless they can see a point in it and who prefers to be left alone to follow their own self-motivations.

This life is a long-term maturing process. Your Profile dictates that you will have three very distinct phases in your life.

6/3 Profile

Your Profile is shared by only about 2.4% of the world population. It indicates that you are here to have a richly experiential life, more so than almost any other Profile. It encompasses your conscious Personality on a long road to become a 'Role Model' of yourself; someone who is deeply authentic.

Behind that, in the unconscious, is 'The Martyr', designed to learn through a trial and error process, which often means making mistakes and learning lessons along the way. This is where the correlation to the 'Martyr' comes in. You are willing to stand up for a principle and may well use yourself as the example, as you mature through your experiences and find principles that you can really live by. You already know your life can be chaotic, but also know that you are designed to be able to live it.

You are both a rare Profile and a highly mutative one. You have the potential to bring real change into people's lives, for better or worse. You can grow to be truly wise from your experience and your intolerance for "bullshit".
